LETTERS TO THE REMNANT CHURCH
MARRIAGE, DIVORCE, REMARRIAGE
A woman (or a man) which has a husband (or a wife) is bound by the law to her husband (or wife) so long as he (or she) is alive; but if the husband (or wife) be dead, she (or he) is loosed from the law of her husband (or wife). (RM 7:13)
If while her husband (or wife) lives, and she is married to another man (or to another woman), after they are divorced, she shall be called an adulteress (or an adulterer). But, if her husband (or wife) be dead, she (or he) is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress ( or he, no adulterer) though she (or he) be married to another man (or he to another woman).
A husband or wife is bound to their spouse so long as the spouse is alive...this is not qualified by divorce, neither is it disqualified by divorce...it just is!
If a husband or wife is dead, then, the surviving spouse is loosed from the law (of marriage), and can re-marry, but only in the LORD!
If, while a husband or wife is alive, (after divorce), and the spouse (either spouse) re-marries to another, that spouse shall be called an adulterer or an adulteress.
So then, as long as both spouses' remain alive, neither can re-marry.
MT 5:32, LK 16:18, Whosoever divorces his wife (or her husband) except for unfaithfulness, will cause that spouse to commit adultery: and whosoever marries that divorced spouse also commits adultery.
1COR 7:10-11, Let not the wife (or husband) depart (or become divorced) but if they do depart (get divorced) let her (or him) remain unmarried, or be reconciled only.
REMAIN UNMARRIED OR BE RECONCILED ONLY!
There is no other option given in scripture, so long as both divorced spouses remain alive.
1. DO NOT DIVORCE
2. DIVORCE ONLY FOR UNFAITHFULNESS
3. ONCE DIVORCED, EACH MUST REMAIN UNMARRIED, SO LONG AS THE OTHER REMAINS ALIVE
4. WISDOM WORKS TOWARD RECONCILIATION
5. DEATH OF ONE SPOUSE ALLOWS THE SURVIVING SPOUSE TO RE-MARRY, BUT ONLY IN
THE LORD
These are the five rules governing marriage/divorce/re-marriage according to the scriptures.
